Trang Tran joined CBP in 2009 after working for various private sector companies supporting the Department of Homeland Security. She currently serves as the Deputy Chief Data Officer (CDO) within the Office of Information Technology (OIT). In this role she led the development of the CBP Data Strategy, which establishes a vision and prioritizes four goals to guide CBP in becoming a more data-centric organization. Mrs. Tran also serves as the Artificial Intelligence Center of Innovation (AI COI) director, helping to establish the AI COI in 2022 to introduce and explore the use of advanced analytic capabilities at CBP. She leads a team of data scientists and data engineers and works closely with mission offices to solve specific mission challenges while also testing new AI technologies, processes, and tools to scale across the enterprise.
In previous positions within CBP’s Office of Information and Technology, Mrs. Tran was the Chief for the Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Section, and as such, was accountable for facilities management of the 24×7 National Data Center (NDC). Additionally, Mrs. Tran led the OIT Business Continuity Planning (BCP) team. BCP is responsible for coordinating and testing detailed processes and procedures for the continuity of CBP essential functions in the event of pandemic or other catastrophic event, resulting in large scale loss or unavailability of human capital.
Mrs. Tran holds a Bachelor of Science in Decision Sciences/Management of Information Systems from George Mason University and a Master of Science in Information Systems Technology from George Washington University. She is currently married with two children and is an avid travel enthusiast.
