Derek Strausbaugh

Derek Strausbaugh leads a team focused on enabling mission-focused outcomes for Microsoft’s U.S. Department of Defense customers and partners. Prior to assuming his current role, Derek was the Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft Federal’s U.S. Department of Defense business. He was responsible for working with internal Microsoft product groups, sales, and business functions to define the technical sales, solutions and product strategy for the DoD’s adoption of Microsoft’s cloud technologies.

In a previous role, Derek was also a Principal Program Manager for the Azure Government Engineering team, leading the programs for the Department of Defense market segment. His primary responsibilities were driving innovation within Microsoft Azure engineering to support the DoD mission and working with DoD programs and partners to establish secure, value-added solutions using Microsoft’s Azure and Azure Government platforms.

Derek has also held technical sales and engineering roles supporting Microsoft’s DoD business. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2011, Derek was the Director of Consulting Services for RDA Corporation’s Federal practice, where he led business development activities and managed large professional services engagements in the Federal Civilian and Defense markets.

Derek has over twenty-five years of federal and commercial industry experience in a variety of technical and program and project management roles, including consulting, full lifecycle software development and operations with a focus on data and analytics, as well as application development using Microsoft and open source technologies.
